Privacy Policy

What data we collect

When you use PackSmart, you provide trip information (destination, dates, group size, activities, traveller names, etc.) to generate your packing list. If you create an account, we also collect your email address as your account identifier. We do not collect payment details or any other personally identifying information beyond what you voluntarily provide.

How we use your data

Trip data is sent to the OpenAI API to generate your packing list. Your destination and travel dates are also sent to Open-Meteo (a privacy-friendly, no-tracking weather service) to provide packing recommendations based on expected conditions.

Generated lists — including your trip details, traveller names, and item selections — are saved to our database (Upstash Redis) so you can access and edit them later. If you are signed in, lists are linked to your account. If you are not signed in, your list is tracked via a browser cookie (see below).

If you provide an email address to receive your list by email, we send it via Resend. If you create an account, your email is stored as your account identifier and used to send you a sign-in link when you request one. We do not send marketing emails. We do not sell, share, or market your data to third parties.

User accounts

You can optionally create a PackSmart account using your email address. Sign-in is handled via a magic link sent to your email — we do not store passwords. Your account email and session information are stored in our database. You can delete your account at any time by emailing hello@packsmart.io, which will remove your account and all associated saved lists.

Cookies and local storage

We use the following cookies and browser storage:

• Session cookie — set when you sign in to keep you logged in.
• guestListId cookie — set for users who generate a list without signing in, so you can return to your list later. Expires after one year. This cookie is removed if you sign in and claim your list to your account.
• Session storage — your form data (destination, dates, activities, etc.) is temporarily stored in your browser's session storage while you fill in the trip form. This is cleared when you close the tab.
• Analytics — we may use Vercel Analytics to understand site traffic. We use no third-party tracking cookies beyond what is required by our advertising partners (Google AdSense).

Data retention

Saved packing lists are retained indefinitely so you can return to them. If you delete your account, all lists linked to it are also deleted. Guest lists (not linked to an account) may be removed after an extended period of inactivity.

Affiliate links

PackSmart participates in the Amazon Associates Programme. When you click an Amazon link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no cost to you. Amazon may set their own cookies on your device.

Your rights

You can request access to or deletion of any data we hold about you by emailing hello@packsmart.io. We will respond within 30 days.
