Personalise for Free →Pack your hospital bag by 36 weeks — earlier if you have a high-risk pregnancy or are expecting twins. Labour can start early and unexpectedly, so having everything ready gives you peace of mind. Keep the bag somewhere accessible and make sure your birth partner knows where it is.
Pack a small pack of size 1 newborn nappies (around 20–24). Hospitals usually provide some but supplies can be limited. Don't over-pack nappies at this stage — you'll quickly learn which brand works for your baby once you're home.
Comfort is everything. A loose, dark-coloured nightgown or oversized t-shirt is ideal — something you don't mind getting messy. If you're planning an epidural or caesarean, make sure the garment opens easily for medical access. Many women choose to throw away their labour clothes afterwards.
Pack a mix of newborn and 0–3 months. Many babies arrive larger than expected and skip newborn sizing entirely. Sleepsuits are the most practical — avoid anything with lots of buttons or tight necklines when you're exhausted and learning.
